Spring Flowering Trees Give Early Color – Every Year!

It’s the time of year when we are so eager for color after a dreary winter. And the best part is that once planted and established, these will need little care in order to bloom year after year!

Read on for ideas and inspiration, then stop in to your favorite Flowerland location for even more options and recommendations.

Cherry Trees

Weeping or upright, cherry trees in bloom are showstoppers! Favorite varieties are Snow Fountains Cherry and Kwanzan Double Pink Cherry.

Crabapple Trees

Flowering Crabapple trees can be a great medium-sized tree option in your yard, as an ornamental tree that will also provide shade. Favorites include Prairifire, Adams, Royal Raindrops, and Ruby Dayze.

Dogwood Trees

Dogwoods can grow as upright trees or as shrubs in partial shade, as they are typically understory plants in woodland settings. Their blooms are unique, ranging from white to pink to light red. Favorites include Scarlet Fire, Cherokee Princess, and Kousa varieties.

Juneberry Trees

Also known as the Serviceberry, Juneberry trees produce showy white or pink flowers in the Spring, before they produce edible berries. Autumn Brilliance is a favorite.

Magnolia Trees

The weather can have the biggest influence on the bloom time of Magnolia trees. Since they bloom early and their flowers cannot handle frost, seeing a Magnolia tree in full bloom is a real treat in Michigan.

Redbud Trees

Redbud trees can grow wider than they are tall, and come in a clump or in upright form. Their heart-shaped leaves add interest to your landscape even after the blooms are gone.

Rhododendrons and Azaleas

These broadleaf evergreen shrubs are perfect for shady spaces in your yard. They do require the right soil and regular fertilizer, but they perform spectacularly with blooms in the Spring and beautiful foliage all year-round. There are too many favorites to list – see them all here.
