Too Late to Plant Bulbs… Now What?

bulbsIt is the end of the year and a great time to buy bulbs at a discount. Unfortunately, the ground is frozen. What are you going to do with all of these bulbs? Try “forcing” them.

How to force a bulb:

#1 :  Bulbs need 12 to 15 weeks to sleep in the winter so they don’t grow prematurely. Find a cold place at home between 30 and 50 degrees. An unheated garage, shed, or even the vegetable crisper in the refrigerator is ideal.

#2 : Take the bulbs out of the packaging and put them into pots with some Flowerland Potting Soil and space them out.forced bulb

#3 : Wait a minimum of 12 weeks. Then check the bulbs to see if they have healthy white roots. If your bulbs have not formed roots, don’t be discouraged just check them again at a later date.

Forcing a bulb isn’t that hard and can be a great way to bring on “Spring” during the winter.

#4: Once the bulbs have roots of about 3 to 7 cm, bring the pots in the house, place them in a bright spot and enjoy!
