These plants won’t “desert” you!

As part of a growing national trend, people are adding succulents to their indoor and outdoor gardens.  A succulent is a plant that stores water in its leaves, roots or stems. Some commonly thought of examples include Aloe and Cacti.  Other examples (some of which even produce flowers) include Sedum, Hen and Chick, Jade Plants and Kalanchoe.

Succulents like bright light and are drought tolerant, especially in the winter when they are dormant. They are also more cold tolerant than people think. (Think desert at night.)

Sedum may be a "desert" plant but it is hearty enough to handle a Michigan winter.
